LILIAN CHEVIOT ~ Westie in the Highlands

This important British artist specialized in animal and figure subjects, and terriers were a favorite subject.   She studied at Frank Calderon’s School of Animal Painting and at Walter Donne’s Life School.  She lived in South-Molesey, Surrey, and Kensington. Cheviot had many distinguished patrons and produced many illustrations for The Graphic magazine as well as other magazines.  Her portraits of dogs were highly regarded among artists and collectors alike. Unfortunately through the passage of time, many biographical details on this artist have been lost.

Cheviot exhibited at the Royal Academy – ‘There’s many a Slip’ (1895) and ‘Kittens’ (1899); Birmingham City Art Gallery, and the Royal Society of British Artists.

This wonderful example of the artist’s work is signed by the artist and presented in pristine condition in its original period frame.
