Date: c. 1910

This painting is in the manner of Henri-Julien Dumont (1859, Beauvais, Oise – 1921). He exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon and the Societe des Artists Independants. In the year 1900 he was awarded a Bronze medal at the Universal Exhibition. This work is signed with a monogram which this artist may have used when he exhibited at other galleries (as many artists often did when working with different galleries). This beautiful painting typifies the best work from the late 19th century/early 20th century. Racing scenes from this period are extremely rare and very sought after.
As can be seen from this superb example of the artist’s work, he was not only a master draughtsman but also created wonderful atmosphere through lively intricacies of color. Shown in a period frame, this racing scene is presented in excellent condition.
