ALFRED AUGUSTUS GLENDENNING SR. ~ A Quiet Summer Evening

Acknowledged as one of the finest English Victorian landscape painters, Alfred A. Glendenning, was born in London.  His address in 1865 was St. George’s Road, Southwark.  He exhibited widely in the provinces and at the Royal Academy from 1865 until 1903 with titles including: “A Cornfield, Kent”, 1865; “Summer Evening”, 1867; “The Thames at Hampton”, 1873; “A September Morning- Surrey”, 1884; “Across the Heath”, 1888; “Evening Glow”, 1894; and “Old Hastings from the East Cliff “, 1903.  Glendening also exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Manchester City Art Gallery, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, and the Dudley Gallery.

Alfred A. Glendenning was a distinguished landscape painter who became famous for his breathtaking views of the Welsh and Scottish mountains. He was noted for producing excellent effects, often bathing his landscapes with a flood of golden light.  These scenes usually featured water and haystacks.

This fine example of his work is presented in excellent condition and is signed and dated by the artist.
